The Cathedral of St. John the Divine consists of an external stone structure that houses a wooden one

within. The Cathedral has withstood a massive earthquake in 1974, and several hurricanes. However

it now faces its greatest enemy: Time.

Current Phases

In 2009, the Anglican Church of St John the Divine celebrated 375 years of worship in Antigua, 165 years since the first Cathedral was consecrated, and its 161st anniversary as Cathedral in the current building, the third incarnation of the Church on this site.  Because of the current condition of the Cathedral, four phases of restoration work have bee identified. A fund raiser, a ‘Black Tie Dinner & Ball’, was held at the Grand Royal Antiguan Resort to officially begin the restoration effort.
